Why is it urgent to change how we look at migrant children and youth?
For years, migrant children and youth have been at the center of political, social, and media debates often marred by disinformation, hate speech, and instrumentalization. Despite being a statistical minority within migration flows, young migrants—especially unaccompanied minors—are frequently used to fuel xenophobic narratives, while their actual vulnerability and lack of protection remain invisible or distorted.
Journalism plays a fundamental role in changing this reality. Our goal is to propose and collectively build new ways of reporting on migrant children and youth with rigor and humanity.
MULTI-SECTOR WORKING GROUPS
ACTIVISM, JOURNALISM, AND THE THIRD SECTOR: A STRATEGIC GATHERING IN MERIDA FOCUSED ON MIGRANT CHILDREN AND YOUTH
On October 14th, in Mérida (Extremadura) will are hosting an independent working session for third-sector organizations and civil society groups making the most of the journalists already gathered in the city for the IX International Congress of Migration Journalism to facilitate conversations and connections that would otherwise be difficult to arrange.
While separate from the Congress itself, the porCausa Foundation as the organizer of both events is uniquely positioned to build this bridge between sectors.
